Malabu: EFCC raids Kano home of ex-AGF Adoke

OPERATIVES of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Wednesday, raided the Kano home of former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Mohammed Bello Adoke.

The residence was reportedly searched.

The visit was said to be in connection with his alleged involvement in the scam surrounding the country’s richest oil bloc, known as Malabu Oil scam.

The ownership of oil bloc awarded under the administration of late General Sani Abacha is a subject of litigation between a former Minister of Petroleum, Dan Etete and the scion of the Abacha family, Mohammed.

The Federal Government had also charged Adoke and others to court over alleged fraud in the payment of $1.8 billion to Etete from the money paid for the oil bloc by Shell and ENI, two oil giants that reportedly bought the OPL 25 off Etete.

EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the raid.

According to him, “we (EFCC operatives) were there (at Adoke’s residence) with valid search warrant.”

He would not disclose the reason(s) for being there or what were taken away by the operatives.

It was also learnt that no person was arrested.

Uwujaren denied that any part of the house or property therein was forcibly pulled down by the operatives.

Nigerian Tribune, however, learnt that documents relating to some of Adoke’s activities in office as the AGF were likely taken away by the operatives.

The commission had sought from the Federal High Court handling the trial of those charged for the alleged money laundering in the Malabu deal to have Adoke declared wanted.

The embattled former minister is currently abroad and had promised to be available for trial once done with his studies.
