Makurdi Appeal Court commences alternative sitting in Lafia

THE Court of Appeal, Makurdi Division, Benue State, has commenced alternative sitting in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital.

Jumai Sankey, the Presiding judge of the court said this on Monday in Lafia that the decision of the court to set in Lafia was aimed at assisting litigants and counsels from Lafia.

According to the Judge, the alternative sitting which would start with 18 cases and set in Lafia from Monday 22 to Friday 26 before a break.

Therefore, he assured the litigants and counsels of their determination to ensure justice and said that the court would be alternating between Benue State and Nasarawa State.

Earlier, Abdulkarim Kana, the state Attorney-General (AG) and Commissioner for Justice, expressed gratitude to the Judge for deciding to share sitting between the two states.

He said that the state government on their on part would provide the necessary logistics in terms of accommodations and court room for their smooth sitting, appealing that the sitting in the states should be on equal basis.

Similarly, Hassan Liman, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), commended the initiative of commencing alternative sitting of Appeal Court in Lafia, expressing hope that this would mark the point that a Court of Appeal would be establish in Nasarawa State.
