‘We are making efforts to ensure clean environment in Osun’

The General Manager of Osun Waste Management Agency, Alhaji Ganiyu Oyeladun, on Monday, said efforts were being made to make the state clean and environment friendly.

Speaking with journalists in Osogbo, Oyeladun  said  the clean environment drive of the state government in recent years was yielding positive results.

He said that the recent provision of uniform to highway managers across the state by Governor Rauf Aregbesola was an indication of government’s determination to sustain  clean environment in the state.

According to him, the zeal exhibited by the highway managers in the past had encouraged government to incorporate them into the O’ Clean programme of the state to make major highways across the state clean all-year round.

Oyeladun stressed that the state government was not taking issues about the environment lightly because of its importance to the  health of the people.

“We are redefining the tenets of waste management in Osun State, we are effortlessly building on the foundation we laid for clean environment through the concept of O’Clean, which has been very effective.

“Our strategies and plans of making our environment clean is all-inclusive and comprehensive.

“Aside the huge employment opportunity the O’ Clean concept has generated, it has also reduced the rate at which people visit the hospital for treatment and completely eradicated epidemics,” he said.

Oyeladun said the state was planning to start a waste recycling programme where materials generated from the environment would be turned into raw materials for industrial use and wealth generation.
