Makinde commissions legacy projects by GCIOBA’s 84th set

Governor Seyi Makinde has commissioned legacy projects completed by the 84th Set of the Government College Ibadan Old Boys Association (GCIOBA).

The projects, which were part of the activities marking the 40th reunion anniversary of the set, include the renovation of the school building and the development of an adjoining quadrangle for students’ recreation.

Other contributions include the donation of equipment and various textbooks to the school’s library, as well as the purchase of 40 school uniforms for indigent students.

Additionally, the set purchased 40 WAEC forms and 40 JAMB forms for students of the school.

The governor, while commending the GCIOBA 84th Set for the laudable projects, charged alumni to always contribute to their alma mater.

He said the government alone can not carry the burden of education, hence collaboration from individuals, cooperate bodies and non governmental organisations.

In his remarks, the chairman of the 1984 Set, Dr Tunji Aladejebi, said the school has been more than just an institution of learning but a community and second home where lifelong friendships were forged and character was built.

He noted that the 40th anniversary of the Set served as a reminder of the “strong network created over time,” adding that their shared history gives them a “unique bond and collective strength to rely on.”

Dr Aladejebi also highlighted several interventions made by the Set to help the school regain its lost glory, including the renovation of the school’s coaster bus, provision of furniture for the biology and chemistry laboratories, donation of complete football kits to the school team, and rehabilitation of the school kitchen, among others.

He urged his colleagues to continue supporting one another, to give back to their alma mater, and to “uphold the values that were instilled in them while in school.”

The Chairman of the 40th Reunion Anniversary, Goke Dokun, added that the school has been “a beacon of excellence, fostering growth, innovation, and community.”

Meanwhile, the GCIOBA President, Wale Babalakin, thanked Governor Makinde for his support of the school and his commitment to making it the best secondary school in Nigeria. He further remarked that GCIOBA has “completely transformed the school” in the last two years following the signing of the Management, Operation, and Development MoU with the state government.
