Makinde approves recruitment of 7,000 teachers to primary schools, additional 100 caregivers to special schools

In fulfillment of his electoral promise and response to the yearnings of the people of Oyo State, Governor ‘Seyi Makinde has approved the recruitment of 7,000 teachers into the public primary schools and additional 100 caregivers into the special schools in the state.

Making the disclosure was the chairman of Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr Nureni Adeniran at a press conference held at the Oyo SUBEB Office in Ibadan last Friday.

He stated that the board will soon bring to the hearing of the people, especially intending applicants the detail of how the recruitment will be conducted from one stage to the other.

The chairman said the press conference became imperative due to various information that have dominated the media space in the last couple of months or even years wherein some scammers went online peddling the news that SUBEB was recruiting even when the approval had not been given.

He warned applicants to be wary of such people knowing that now that the approval has been given, they will want to use the opportunity to scam the unsuspecting members of the public by soliciting money from them.

“So I am coming out on behalf of the state government to say that approval has finally been given and we have already commenced preliminary work on the modalities of the recruitment exercise which will also be made public at the appropriate time.”

“The essence of this press briefing is to warn the intending applicants to be wary of scammers and to let them know that the Oyo State government has not appointed anyone to serve as agent or proxy in this recruitment exercise

“Hence, this is to say that the exercise will be free and fair as well as conducted in a credible manner and any information regarding this will be emanating from our office under the supervision of the chairman of the board.

He noted that “even if there is going to any addendum or additional directives concerning the initial information that we might have dropped about the template, stages or procedures to be followed, as well as other information that are required in the process, people should not hesitate to come to our office to find out for themselves the truth, not relying on any secondhand information which may not be true.”

He reiterated that no person has been empowered to collect a dime from prospective applicants on the account of the recruitment exercise, saying no person, whether staff or non-staff members, has been authorized to collect a dime from anyone.”

He noted that the board is working in tandem with other relevant stakeholders in the education sector, namely, the Ministry of Education, Office of the Head of Service and the Civil Service Commissions.

“It is worthy of note that this board has promised to adhere strictly with the directives of His Excellency to be conducted strictly on merit as that is the directive of His Excellency in the course of giving the  approval.”

He thanked Governor Seyi Makinde for not reneging on his electoral promise to Oyo SUBEB concerning recruitment of teachers in primary during his second time in office.

When asked on how his board will ensure inclusiveness and even distribution in all the 33 local governments in the state, he said “there is no discrimination whatsoever, these are  our schools and the teachers are our teachers and they have all had their fair share in the scarcity or inadequate teachers that has plagued our primary schools us up till now.

“They are going to benefit from the recruitment exercise as special attention will be given to people with autism too.

“The distribution will be organised in such a way that it will take care of the lopsidedness in some localities. We will use this recruitment exercise to balance up, he clarified.

Assuring that the recruitment exercise will be highly localised, he said “if you’re from A local government, don’t claim that you are C local government, because you will be made to work in your local government. Claiming a wrong local government will be tantamount to overloading some places and which will in turn affect the chances of some other people to be employed.”
