Make children’s education priority, parents, guardians told

PARENTS and guardians have been advised to make the education of their children priority, and to continue to nurture them with the fear of God.

The proprietress of Focus Private Academy, Lugbe, Abuja, Mrs. Sola Ogunmodede, gave the advice at the Obasanjo Space Centre, Abuja, while delivering her speech at this year’s graduation/prize giving ceremony of the school.

She also urged the graduating pupils to believe in themselves and be more focused, saying the journey so far has demonstrated that with God, there are no insurmountable barriers.

Mrs Ogunmodede said the school had a most impactful session in the outgoing year by retraining and re-equipping the teachers in some new teaching/learning scheme and methods.

She said the result was that class management became more effective, while pupils who were ordinarily considered as slow learners showed quicker assimilation level and all generally performed creditably well in their academics.

“Come next session, our drive towards academics excellence will continue with new vigor by the grace of God. In extra-curricular activities, we ensured that our children maintained a stable balance. We thank God for positive improvement.

“And we celebrate, (we should) to let the children know that they have gone to another phase of life. From Crèche to KG One; from Nursery Two to Basic One, and from Basic Five to Junior Secondary School (JSS 1). This is another phase entirely.

“The childish behaviour or attitude should drop. They are going to secondary school to add more value to their life; to know more and to encourage them that they can do it.”

In their separate parting speeches, the Head Boy and Head Girl, Ikwue David and Mahmud Laurat respectively, said they experienced a great deal of love and learnt a lot from the proprietress and teachers since they joined the school.

Speaking further, David said the support they received from their respective teachers were tremendous, urging young scholars coming behind to take their academics seriously.

In her own speech, the Head Girl, Laurat, said she was a shy girl and never believed she could stand in the midst of a crowd in six years’ time to deliver a speech.

She, therefore, called on their parents to continue supporting, educating and exposing them as they move to the next phase of their academics growth.
