Factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, on Monday, accused the national caretaker committee chairman of the party, Senator Ahmed Makarfi of using impunity and blackmail to hold on to power.
In a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja by his deputy, Dr Cairo Ojougboh, Sheriff alleged that the plan of Makarfi’s group was “to annihilate the party”.
While insisting that the Makarfi-led caretaker committee of the party was illegal, he said, “the illegal caretaker committee has now transcended from impunity to blackmail”. There is nothing they will not say or do to lay claim to the headship of our dear PDP which they plan to annihilate.
“We plead with Makarfi and his people to exit PDP quietly and let us rebuild our party. We have consistently told the world that the problem of PDP is Senator Makarfi
Reacting, however, the spokesman of the PDP caretaker committee, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, described Ali Modu Sheriff and his group as agents of the All Progressives Congress (APC), paid to destabilise party at all cost
Adeyeye, in another statement, said, “We maintain that these people are agents of APC. They are paid agents of the ruling party to destabilize our great party
“It is evident that they are all profiting from the crisis. We are concerned about the massive rigging of the election in Rivers State by APC. These agents of the devil are careless about that”, he said.
“If they are true members of the party, will they be gloating over the open robbery of our party in Edo, Ondo and now Rivers? “Their latest outburst, no doubt, must be at the prompting of their sponsors who want to use them to divert attention from the electoral heist in Rivers,” he said.
Adeyeye noted that Sheriff and his cohorts have never for once spoken for the party against the APC, nor had they at anytime defended the interest of the party in any way.
All they have always done is to constitute a source of distraction, nuisance and irritation for us at very critical times “Nigerians can now make up their minds whether Sheriff and company really belong to PDP or not,” he said.
