Makarfi and the new PDP

Published by

The national chairman caretaker committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ahmed makarfi, deserves a pat on the back for repositioning the party within a short period of time.

After a long legal battle between Makarfi and the Ali Modu-Sheriff faction, the senator and his faction emerged victorious after the Supreme Court’s judgment. Now, he is faced with three major challenges.

First, the national chairman wants to conduct a free and fair convention that would facilitate the emergence of new leaders who will pilot the affairs of the party.

Second, Makarfi is also expected to woo the aggrieved members of the party back into its fold. The third major challenge is to finetune and build the party to become a true opposition and a force to reckon with.

Senator Makarfi has left no one in doubt about the fact that he is equal to the task. Nowithstanding the numerous crises of great proportions that bedeviled the party in recent times, Makarfi has been solving problems to the satisfaction of all and sundry.

No wonder then that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party extended his tenure for an additional two months. This is to provide enough time for the interim national chairman to conduct a hitch-free convention.

He has been reaching out to the aggrieved members of the party with a view to bringing them back. This move has started yielding positive results, as former members of the party have agreed to return to it.

Senator Makarfi’s desire and commitment to making the party great and strong can be seen in the series of reforms carried out by him. He has been consulting stakeholders on how to reposition the party for better.

His open door and all-inclusive policy is commendable. The party has started wearing a new look and is poised to claim its lost glory.

We are keemly watching the rapid transformation of the party with great interest.

The interim management committee has been doing a great job.
