Maikori fights back seeks N10bn damages from el-Rufai

Chocolate City boss Audu Maikori has hit back at Kaduna State governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai by filing a N10 billion lawsuit against the governor for his unlawful arrest and detention.

Maikori is seeking redress in court for gross violation of his human rights in a suit (FHC/ABJ/CS/385/17) filed by his lawyers, Ballason’s Chambers at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

Maikori, an indigene of Southern Kaduna is seeking damages against el-Rufai to the tune of N10 billion in a suit which came up for hearing before the trial judge, Hon. Justice John Tsoho on Tuesday, 16th May, 2017, with the entertainment impresario praying the court to enforce his fundamental rights against undue harassment and intimidation by the governor of Kaduna State.

It will be recalled that Maikori was re-arrested by security operatives over his Southern Kaduna comments 22-days after he was initially arrested and whisked away by policemen who later transferred him to Abuja at the time for more questioning over what was regarded as inciting remarks.

Recall that weeks after making the claim on Twitter, Maikori apologised and retracted the comments, informing that after carrying out a detailed investigation that involved the police, he found out that his driver who broke the news to him and was in Kaduna at the time of the incident and claimed his brother was also killed, lied to him just to extort money.

Before Maikori’s arrest, detention and trial, el-Rufai had promised that Maikori will be prosecuted over his misleading tweets on Southern Kaduna attack for posting on his Twitter time-line that five students of the College of Education, GidanWaya in Kaduna State, were ambushed and killed by herdsmen while on their way back to school on January 22nd, 2017.
