MAAUN president donates $100,000 to Islamic University in Uganda

The President of the MAAUN Group of Universities, Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, in a generous act of philanthropy, has donated $100,000 (N160 million) to the Islamic University in Uganda.

It is worth noting that Professor Gwarzo, the founder of Maryam Abacha American University in Niger, Nigeria, Franco-British International University in Kaduna, and the Canadian University of Nigeria in Abuja, led a 17-man delegation to attend the convocation in Uganda, where he served as a special guest of honour at the second university, established in 1988.

This announcement was made in a statement signed by the Executive Assistant to Professor Gwarzo, Alhaji Adnan Mukhtar, which was made available to the press in Kano on Monday.

According to the statement, Professor Gwarzo made the donation during the 33rd convocation ceremony of the university, held at its main campus in Mbale. The university also presented an award of excellence to Professor Gwarzo in recognition of his selfless service toward its development.

While presenting the award, the Council Chairman of the University, H.E. Prof. Dr. Muhammad A.S.E.A. Altabtabaei from the State of Kuwait, commended Professor Gwarzo for his contributions to the university, stating, “I was informed by the university management of your contributions. On behalf of the council, I wish to extend our appreciation to you.”

In his acceptance speech, Professor Gwarzo thanked the university for the recognition and announced the donation of $100,000 to support its continued development.

The Rector of the university in Kampala, Prof. Dr. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the donation, praying for God’s blessings on Professor Gwarzo’s wealth. He described him as a philanthropist who consistently keeps his word. “This donation is huge. On behalf of the students and staff of the Islamic University in Uganda, we wish to express our sincere appreciation and pray to Almighty Allah to bless your wealth,” he said.
