A chieftain of the leadership crisis-laden Labour Party (LP), Edeh Benjamin, has strongly condemned the actions of the party’s suspended National Chairman, Julius Abure, accusing him of deliberate sabotage and collusion during the 2023 general elections.
According to Edeh Benjamin, Julius Abure’s leadership not only failed the party but actively compromised its integrity.
“I personally drew Abure’s attention to the questionable activities and alignments taking place during the election period — especially the concerning rapport between INEC and APC,” Benjamin said.
According to him, “His only response was to smile. What kind of party chairman would watch his own house burn and do nothing?”
He revealed that most of the Labour Party state chairmen in the northern region were, in fact, card-carrying members of the PDP and APC — a fact Julius Abure was well aware of and yet did nothing to rectify.
“This led to a total lack of polling agents in many areas. Duties were handed over to self-styled support groups, who used the momentum of the movement for personal gain and enrichment, rather than true service to the party,” he added.
Edeh Benjamin further referenced the Supreme Court’s decision, stating that Julius Abure’s position as Labour Party chairman is now legally invalid.
“Anyone still listening to his excess hollaballoo is simply wasting their time,” he said firmly.
He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to, in line with its constitutional mandate and the Labour Party’s internal guidelines, recognise the duly instituted caretaker committee as the legitimate leadership of the party.
Edeh Benjamin, a prominent Labour Party chieftain, is known for his advocacy for transparency, accountability, and internal party reforms. He remains committed to restoring the party’s credibility and ensuring the voice of the people is not betrayed from within.
