Dissatisfied for filling a divorce suit against his wife for a second time, a man, Kolawole Ogundipe, has asked Ile Tuntun Customary Court, Mapo Hall, Ibadan, Oyo State, to dissolve his two-year-old marriage to his wife, Omolara.
While recounting his ordeal, Kolawole told the court that he is not happy that he has to summon his wife to the court over the same naughtiness for which she was dragged to the court the first time. To further proof his point, he brought about five of the torn clothes to the court as evidence.
“The first time we appeared before the court, we eventually settled out of court and she made a promise in writing that she will never disobey my rules and regulations again. The pledge gave me an assurance and we continued to live as a couple. Not until recently when she took me by surprise with a quarrel.
“She no longer complies with my rules and regulations. Each time we had a quarrel, she would grab my clothes and tear them. I want the court to separate us before I become a man who will be walking on streets with rags. I’m tired of being her husband,” Kolawole exclaimed.
In response to the allegations against her, the defendant, Omolara, said:
“The reason I do not accept my husband’s claim is that I do not understand why my husband wants to divorce me. His second wife is the root of our problems; she curses me and my husband would not caution her. The last quarrel we had before he resolved to file another divorce suit, I did not tear his clothes deliberately more so, he tore my own too.”
The president of the court, Chief Olasunkanmi Henry Agbaje, adjourned the case for further hearing.
