The Nigerian Local Government Excellence Award (LOGEXA) has nominated the Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Honourable Abdul Hamed Salawu, for the Best Local Government Chairman in Nigeria.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Owolabi Oseni, it was revealed that this marks his sixth nomination for the honour, which will be presented later this week at the newly constructed and soon-to-be-commissioned Somolu Local Government Administrative Complex.
He stated that the chairman’s leadership continues to garner national recognition, with six recent awards celebrating his innovative approach to governance.
These include the Innovation in Local Governance Award and the Outstanding Grassroots Leadership Award, which commend his exceptional contributions to community development, infrastructural advancements, and impactful empowerment initiatives.
Speaking on the projects embarked upon by his administration, the CPS identified the interlocking of roads, solar-powered streetlights, and the establishment of the Olaleye Ultramodern Shopping Centre, all of which have bolstered economic growth and improved residents’ quality of life.
Oseni noted that the chairman’s administration prioritises inclusivity, with over 70% of empowerment programs benefiting women. He added that the chairman’s youth-orientated initiatives focus on entrepreneurship and education, creating opportunities for sustainable development and enhancing the lives of the residents of Somolu.
