Al-Makura
NASARAWA State Governor, Umaru Tanko Al-makura has described the local government system in the state as a conduit – pipe where passive workers extort the government.
The governor made the statement on Monday, at the Government House, during the swearing -in ceremony of chairmen and members of the State Assembly Commission, Local Government Commission and other heads of government institutions.
According to Al-makura, most staff and pensioners of Local Governments in the state have relocated to cities with their salaries intact and consistent.
He decried that, if measures are not taken to nip the ugly trend in the bud, the local government would become a failed system.
The governor stated that it was against the backdrop in the system that the government swiftly constituted the local government service commission to address the chunk of problems bedeviling the system.
“With the commission in place, it would help resolve problems of over staffing, employment regularization and other critical issues”, he said.
