The Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development (LSMYSD) is set to commence an annual leadership training project christened, Ibile Youth Academy (IYA).
The academy was launched during the week by the deputy governor of Lagos State, Mrs Idiat Adebule at Alausa and is set to train over hundred young people between the ages of 16 and 24 annually.
Speaking during the launch programme, the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mrs Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf, said: The academy was “designed to inculcate in the youth the virtues of citizenship, leadership and volunteerism for the development of their personality, society and state and the nation by extension.”
“The intensive leadership training will take place simultaneously in five youth centres in the five administrative divisions of Lagos State namely Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos and Epe.
“It is expected that a minimum of one hundred youths (male and female) between the ages of 16 and 24 years with a minimum educational qualification of WASC/ SSCE will participate in the leadership in each of these divisions.”
“The collection of forms for the training will begin between 8 February and 24 February at designated Youth Centres.
