LG polls: Explosives rock Rivers APC secretariat

Explosion rocks APC secretariats during the local government pools in the early hours of Saturday,  suspected to be dynamite, along Aba Road in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.

The explosion caused significant damage, bringing down the gate of the secretariat and destroying doors, windows, and other property within the premises. This marks the second attack on the Chief Tony Okocha-led APC’s secretariat this year.

The incident occurred just as local government elections were set to take place in the state today. The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission announced on Friday that all sensitive materials for the elections had been distributed to the various local government areas.

A viral video of the scene showed workers assessing the extent of the damage caused by the blast. When contacted, the spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, stated that she had yet to receive a report on the incident but promised to provide updates as soon as possible.

As of now, the APC has not issued any official statement regarding the explosion.

Details will follow as more information becomes available.
