LG boss blames past leaders for insecurity in Kogi state

THE administrator of Adavi Local government area of Kogi State, Enesi Abu, has identified the activities of some past leaders as the major cause of high crime rate in the state.

He particularly blamed the former leaders, who allegedly empowered the youths with weapons for political activities for the insecurity in Kogi central senatorial district.

Speaking during the celebration of his one year in office, the council boss said the development had made Governor Yahaya Bello to combat the inherited cases of insecurity frontally.

According to him, security of lives and property as prioritised in the New Direction of the present administration and adopted in the area, had drastically reduced social vices in his domain.

Abu said, “I want to appreciate the Governor of Kogi State for his bold step in combating insecurity in the state especially Kogi Central. We are unfortunate to be reaping the seeds of thuggery sowed by our past leaders who armed our youths with weapons.”

Highlighting the steps taken to reduce crime rate in the area, he said apart from several youths and women empowerment schemes, his administration had paid the West African Examination Council (WAEC) fees for many indigent students in the area so as to improve the quality of education.

Besides, he said his administration had also carried out repair works on some boreholes across the LGA, paid hospital bills for many patients and rehabilitated several feeder roads that linked Adavi with other local governments to enhance economic activities.

He maintained that the era of government’s programme being shrouded in secrecy was over, saying that transparency, accountability and fairness were the watchword of his administration.

While urging the youths to avoid being used as a tool for political unrest, he expressed his readiness to sustain grassroots enlightenment of government’s programme in order to avoid being misled by mischief makers.

Also speaking, the coordinator of Governor Yahaya Bello (GYB), connect, for Adavi/ Okehi federal constituency, Alhaji Muktar Bajeh, noted that the administrators of the various Local government areas of the state were carefully selected by Bello based on their previous track records, as responsible people who would be able to meet the yearnings and aspiration of the rural populace.
