LG autonomy: My meetings with Jigawa council chairmen personal — RMAFC commissioner

The Commissioner of Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) representing Jigawa state, Hajiya Hauwa Umar Aliyu said her visit to the ministry for local government and meeting with 27 new Jigawa state local government councils chairmen of the state is more personal.

The commissioner representing the state at the RMAFC disclosed this while fielding questions to newsmen in Dutse the capital city of the state shortly after her close door meeting with new 27 local government councils chairmen of the state.

Aliyu entered a meeting behind closed doors for about two hours at the ministry for local government conference room between the RMAFC commissioner, management of the ministry, 27 local councils’ chairmen and the chairman state’s board of internal revenue.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after the meeting, the RMAFC commissioner, said she is in the state and met with new councils’ chairmen to familiarise themselves.

According to her “I’m in my state for myself to meet the new local government councils’ chairmen to see face to face, familiarise ourselves for progress and for the better of the state and our people.

“Parts of my work is has to do with dealing with the local government especially at the state level, the state as well at federal level. So I’m to meet them so as to familiarise our selves to build on a more good relationship, stand on a good note, to tell them on what I’m doing in Abuja at Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission as I’m there representing them and just if they are at any time in need of my assistant, support and advise, I’m available.”

She said her visit and meeting is not in connection with the federal government policy of local government financial autonomy and paying local councils federal allocations directly.

“You can just term this visit as informal, yeah nothing formal. Just to see my people, my brothers and see how we can work together for the betterment of our state,” she said.

Hauwa maintained that “though I told them (new councils’ chairmen) Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission what’s are doing what our works all about and things around that and clarify any issues they want to know from my office. Like I said this is an informal visit.

“It’s just there what constitution said on our work, but nothing more. Just to see our selves and know how to work together for our people.”
