Letter to our president

Published by

Congratulations President Muhammadu Buhari, this is Nigeria’s greatest moment of history. In this your last lap as president, kindly free the over 90 per cent poor majority who live in abject poverty from captivity. Our destiny and that of generations yet unborn is at risk in the hands of the corrupt elite.

The past four years have been the best for Nigeria. However, in the next four years, there are landmines to avoid; the staggering obstacles to surmount will come from the same elite. It is about the vexing influence of the elite to block every move to free the majority from the poverty trap. The war will continue within your own party; the ability to inspire the majority and arouse them to greater and more determined action lies with you.

Sir, Ghana revalued its currency and the heavens did not fall, no matter what the experts say, Nigeria’s economy will remain in distress if nothing is done with the exchange rate of the naira to the dollar. The rate favoured the elite and it is crushing our industries and they usually pass the burden on to poor consumers.

The education sector is critically ill. In Nigeria, the education sector’s mess has contributed hugely to unemployment because it is churning our unemployable graduates. The heap of the mess is gigantic; it stinks to the high heavens.

Sir, let the 16 years of famine caused by the locusts be followed by years of abundance. Your own eight years should cancel the effects of the 16 years the locusts devoured the land with their grand looting appetite.

As mentioned earlier, you have laid the solid foundation already by your master stroke in the agriculture sector.

John R. Jimoh,

Sagamu.
