Let’s reduce waste, shun materialism —The Companion

AN organisation of Muslim men in business and the professions, The Companion, Ilorin, Kwara State district, has called on government and people of Nigeria to reduce waste and shun materialism in accordance with the lifestyle of Prophet Muhammad and his companions as part of steps towards achieving sustainable growth and development.

The group called on its members and, indeed, the general public to always invest their time and money on productive ventures.

Rising from its district conference in Ilorin, the group declared support for the ongoing war against corruption in all its ramifications and called for the deployment of the country’s laws in the crusade.

In line with this, the group also called on government at all levels to reduce waste and cost of governance.

The Companion, in a communique signed by its Amir, Alhaji Saibu Tajudeen Makanju, also called on the Kwara State government to sustain its efforts at improving its internally generated revenue and ensure judicious use of tax payers’ money.

Noting that the country’s diversification policy was overdue, it called on the Kwara State government to key into the agricultural programmes and policies of the Federal Government with a view to maximising the gains.

The Federal Government, the group said, should make a substantial investment in agriculture, tourism and exploration of the mineral potentials of Kwara State where, according to it, the state had a comparative advantage over other states of the federation.

This, the group noted, would bring development, provide jobs for youths and launch the state into a vantage position to contribute to the enhancement of the country’s Gross Domestic Product.
