Let’s redouble our effort to tackle economic recession – APC chieftain

THE All Progressives Congress (APC), National Vice Chairman, North Central, Honourable Zakari Idde, on Thursday called on President Muhammadu Buhari to redouble his efforts in finding a short term solution in addressing the economic recession the country is facing.

In his opening address at the APC North Central Zonal mini convention, Honourable Idde said that, “I want to make use of this opportunity to appeal to Mr President and indeed the APC-led Federal Government to redouble their efforts in finding a short term solution and very quick relief measures on these hard times within the shortest possible time.”

He equally appealed for funding of the party, saying, “I want to appeal to our governors and other stakeholders for more financial support to enable the zone discharge its constitutional responsibilities more effectively.”

Speaking further, he said, “I need to remind you that the zone is still indebted in the payment of rent of the zonal secretariat for two years, as well as staff salaries and general administration and running cost. I am pleading to our governors and our elected representatives and other stakeholders to please come to our rescue.”

Commenting on the mini convention, he said that, “in the spirit of equitable spread and distribution of party positions across the zones, the last zonal meeting has resolved to retain the positions of the National Publicity Secretary and National Deputy Treasurer to Kwara and Niger states respectively. While the positions of the zonal secretary and organising secretary were zoned to Plateau and Niger states respectively.”

Consequently, he said that, “today’s congress may only seek to adopt and affirm the decisions and resolutions already agreed at the last zonal meeting with respect to the zoning of these vacant positions.

“And so, the entire exercise may not take too long as those states concerned have already made their nominations of candidates that will fill the vacant positions and will only require the endorsement and affirmation of the congress,” he stated.
