Leah Sharibu, at 15, a SSS 1 student of Government Girls Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State, is a Christian and the only one among the 110 abducted on February 19, 2018 and was not released on March 21, alongside others because she refused to denounce her Christian faith and profess Islam. She had shown uncommon spiritual maturity.
I appeal to the insurgents to embrace the teachings of God and set Leah free, for there is no compulsion in religion and no one should be forced to renounce his or her religion in favour of another.
Apart from seeking freedom for Leah Sharibu, I enjoin the Federal Government to remember the remaining Chibok girls still in the captivity of the Boko Haram insurgents since almost four years ago.
The government must expedite action to ensure their prompt release and subsequent rehabilitation and reintegration into the society. The country needs peace and the positive mobilisation of all citizens to peaceful co-existence and unity as a people, so as to achieve the much-desired greatness.
