Let your children learn a trade, Muslim parents admonished

Published by

MUSLIM parents have been called upon to make their children learn one trade or the other which they can then go to school to train on further and develop.

The call was made in Abuja by the Chief Imam of the University of Abuja, Professor Taofiq Abdul Azeez, while delivering the first Ramadan lecture of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) zone of the Nasrul-Lahi-l-Fathi Society (NASFAT) with the theme, “Living as Muslims in a Global Knowledge Economy.”

Professor Abdul Azeez said Muslim children should not just go to school but they should learn a trade to be able to survive in a knowledge economy which, he said, was based on creating, evaluating and trading knowledge.

“Training of our children, they shouldn’t just go to a school; they should learn a trade to be able to live on their own. If they want to go to school, they can then go to school to train further and develop on what they have learnt,” the don stated.

According to him, knowledge economy is the latest stage of development in global economic restructuring and Muslims have to be actively involved in the process.

On his part, the chairman of the occasion, who is the Minister of Interior, General Abdur-Rahman Danbazzau, called on Muslims to be prudent in spending and share what they have with others.

Earlier in his welcome address, the zonal chairman, NASFAT FCT Zone, Mr Salawudeen Giwa, stated that organising the lecture was the organisation’s modest contribution to national discourse.
