The newly constructed statue of Are sacred crown beside Enuwa Square in Ile-Ife
Recently, there was a clash between Hausa and Yoruba people at Ile-Ife, Osun State, that resulted in the loss of lives and properties. Following the incident, the national coordinator of the Yoruba Patriot Movement, Mr Oladosu Oladipo, called on the Osun State governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, to set up a full-scale inquiry into the clash.
The YPM made this call, recalling the manner some herdsmen in Ondo State destroyed a farmland belonging to Chief Olu Falae in 2016.
I would like to emphasise that we need peace, love and unity in our nation. We cannot segregate ourselves as different tribes and live separately because we want to avoid clashes.
Let us learn to live and work together, no matter our ethnic group or religion. It is almost impossible to expel Hausa people from Yoruba land, neither is it possible for the Yoruba people to be expelled from the North.
If we can have a northerner as a president and a Yoruba man as his deputy, why then can the Yoruba and Hausa not unite as one? What can we gain from clashes and violence?
We have a lot of economic problems in Nigeria right now, and we should be looking for a way to support the government to work towards a solution to them, not adding to them. United we stand, divided we fall.
