Let ‘change’ impact be felt, cleric urges Senate

Published by

The Senate has been urged to allow the ‘change’ promised by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to have true impact on the nation’s polity.

The Diocesan Bishop, The Right Reverend (Dr) Abraham Olaoluwa Akinlalu, gave the charge at the first session of the ninth synod of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Diocese of Oke-Osun, held at St. Barnabas’ Anglican Church, Apomu, from Thursday, April 27th till Sunday, 30th April.

Bishop Akinlalu, who said that senators were focusing on minor issues rather than working on major issues that would move the country forward and help her improve on the ailing economy, warned the Federal Government not to wait till there was “Armageddon” before wading into the issue of the herdsmen clashes, who were surreptitiously invading several states in the country.

He encouraged the lawmakers to enact definite laws and regulations on cattle ranching, and called on the Federal Government to use recovered loots judiciously and for the benefit of the masses, while culprits should be punished in order to serve as deterrent to others.

He also enjoined the three tiers of government to pay workers’ salaries as at when due.

Corroborating the Diocesan Bishop during his sermon at the thanksgiving service on Sunday, Bishop Philip Adeyemo of Omu-Aran Anglican Diocese lamented the nonpayment of salaries, rising cases of unemployment and high cost of foodstuffs.

Bishop Adeyemo decried the unfavourable situation which, he said, had adversely affected the bhurch, but urged the church to stand firm in times of challenges as this.

“Whether politicians like it or not, Nigeria shall be great again and it shall be well with us. There is hope for those in Christ,” he stated.
