Learn from Awolowo’s life-impacting policies, Cleric tells politicians

The presiding cleric at the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Liberty Centre, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti state capital, Prophet Abiodun Ogungboye has called on leaders in the country to learn from the policies and programmes of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

Ogungboye explained that the late sage introduced programmes and projects which impacted positively on the lives of the people, adding that leaders in the country should always make the welfare and well-being of citizens the centre of their policies.

The cleric spoke with newsmen in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday with the theme, ‘Nigeria Needs Prayers and not Prophecy ‘ ahead of the church’s annual 100-hour event slated for between August 14 and 20, saying that people should embrace praying for their leaders towards doing what is right.

He called on religious leaders to shun the increasing declaration of prophecies which he said were unsettling the nation but focused on playing their role with prayers for the development of the nation.

According to him, “ What is important is the impact you make in the lives of the people, not the position. I want our leaders to know that they will be assessed based on their contributions to the well-being of the people they are leading.

“Nobody can forget the impact and contributions of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, late Nnamdi Azikiwe and late Tafawa Balewa. I passed through a place recently where people were saying a particular bridge was constructed during the Awolowo days, that is encouraging looking at the years.

“Let our leaders do things that will make life comfortable for the citizens, and make us live in peace, that is what people will continue to say after they might have left this world.

“As regards what we are passing through in the country, it has happened in the bible but all those prophecies before and after the elections is not what we needed in the country today.

“We need prayers, word of God and not prophecy to overcome our challenges. We have so many religious people in positions of authority and yet we have challenges. Let the President be prayerful to be able to do what the people really want.”
