It is in our habit to leap without looking. The result is always crippling. For example, we said the power sector is better left in private hands. Up until now, we are still in darkness. If all hands should be on deck, our preoccupation now should be how to accelerate revenue generation. Our priority should be how to galvanize the people to rise up to their civic responsibilities regarding the payment of tax and getting it done with minimum fuss.
A clear vision to take Nigeria out of the woods is, I believe, the restructuring of our minds. We need to ask ourselves how and why we are where we are today? For example, has the voting public been able to sift through the chaff and vote for visionary leaders who can steer the ship of state to our Canaan land safely provide the tools to mine the gold that will provide the milk and honey? Today in Nigeria, we have leaping and limping continual rational voters in the midst of extreme poverty and ignorance.
Buhari administration’s carelessness, negligence cost Nigeria’s fortune ― Soyinka
Must we continue to deceive ourselves? Nigeria is in trouble! I am afraid that unless we restructure our minds and imbibe the values that will check the massive looting of the treasury, insecurity, economic ruin, banditry, unemployment, etc, we will continue to miss the target and put holes in our desire to follow the example of countries like Ghana, The Gambia and others particularly in Eastern Europe that have elected visionary leaders to steer their ship of state.
Our smartest or brightest and visionary people are yet to be voted into office in Nigeria because of our mindset. We must not stop speaking truth to ourselves.
