Lead City Voices, a team of dedicated intellectual students at the Lead City University LCU , Ibadan, has held its intervarsity debate competition to encourage public speaking among students and aswell provide platform for students to discuss and proffer solutions to the challenges facing the country.
The two day debate competition was held on Wednesday 20th March and Thursday 21st of March respectively at Adeline Hall ,Leadcity University , Ibadan.
Six universities participated in the competition ,
the universities , include the host , Leadcity University, Ibadan ,Obafemi Awolowo University, ,University of Ibadan, Lagos state University, LASU , McPherson University and Bowen University, Iwo , Osun state .
During the competition, OAU came first with 91.7%, above LASU with 86.24%, and UI with 86.08%, with the hosts coming closely fourth.
Speaking with journalists,The Dean, Faculty of Arts , Leadcity University, Ibadan, Anjola Robbins Stated that the debate competition is an initiative of Leadcity voices to further on the objectives of the institution adding that the competition was organised to key in to the master plan of the University.
She further stated that the competition is meant to build young people in entrepreneurial skill and public speaking .
Robbins who is also the staff advisor of the Leadcity Voices noted that the competition prepares students mentally , emotionally and psychologically to talk and discuss on salient and societal issues .
She said “this competition prepares students mentally , emotionally and psychologically to talk and discuss on salient and societal issues .
“In the overall they are better off as a person and they are able to prove themselves
It helps them to be mentally competitive “
She however advised Nigerian youths to create a balance between formal education , talent and skills.
Also speaking, the President, Leadcity Voices, Victor Ogunola stated that the event is meant to bring universities students together .
He further added that the competition is beyond winning the competition but serves as a means of creating bonds among the Nigerian universities students.
