According to Paul Oladunni, Regional President, Africa, Space Renaissance and Space Tourism, Adrian .V. Autino, founder of Space Renaissance International will be coming to Nigeria with 14 space specialists from Europe who are billed to arrive Nigeria in April 2018.
He pointed out that the Apollo Dinner which was formerly scheduled for the this month November, 2017 had to be shifted to April next year because “the date in November coincided with the Convocation Week of Lead City University, Ibadan.”
Mr Oladunni revealed “Nigeria has made impressive advancement in space technology via the National Space Research and Development Agency in Abuja, but we are ensuring the spreading of the space benefits beyond the frontiers of formalism to the border of sustainable relevance to the students via tourism and to citizens via scientific exposure”.
He pointed out “We are bringing to the country the foundational personalities involved in space exploration which include, the only living person out of the first two who walked on the Moon, Dr Buzz Aldrin, Astronaut Charles Duke, the youngest person to ever walked on the Moon, Dr Andy Aldrin Jnr, Taofeek Huk, Chief Operating Officer , Lunar letters and others”.
Mr Oladunni said “we are bringing together global figures in space innovation to raise the awareness that will drive education and help develop the next generation of space innovators who will lead Nigeria to future habitation of Moon and Mars”.
He revealed “Our goal is to provide a platform where the space visitors will give eyewitness account of what they saw, expose to all how space travel and travelling has been beneficial and can be utilized in developmental projects”
Mr Oladunni added “The Apollo Dinner which will be hosted in Ondo, Abuja, Lagos, Oyo and other states which is ready and open to exploring the scientific and biological benefits of space technology”.
He revealed that Ondo, Lagos, Oyo States have indicated their readiness to host Apollo Dinner as part of their drifts at exploring and enhancing scientific knowledge and leveraging on the experience of the Moonwalkers”.
Mr Oladunni said “This Apollo Dinner Nigeria has received the blessing and endorsement of the Minister of Communications, Barrister Adebayo Shittu, and Professor Mohammed Seidu, Director – General, National Space Research, and Development Agency”.
Reinforcing this, Professor Olusola Ladokun, Dean, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Lead City University, said “This programme is a continuation of the celebration of the first human Space Flight, held by this institution last year in conjunction with Space Tourism Society, Nigeria Chapter. We are making sure that our students are scientifically compliant and technologically alive. Space technology is in the front burner of scientific inquisition and we cannot afford to be complacent hence our strides at ensuring that we are abreast of development in this generational scientific field.”
Dr Ayobami Owolabi, Director, Corporate Communication/Students’ Affairs disclosed “Lead City University, Ibadan is not only committed to the academic excellence of its students, but also of making each student a global citizen by ensuring that they are abreast of contemporary events and involved in global developmental initiative”.
