LCDAs will accelerate development —Oyo govt

Published by

Oyo State government has reiterated its commitment to fast-track development through the implementation of the further amendment local government bill 2002 as contained in the Oyo State Gazette number 23, Volume 27, dated August13, 2002.

It will be recalled that the state government, last week, disclosed executive council’s approval of additional 35 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) following the resolution of the state House of Assembly, on June 16, 2016, that the state government should establish LCDAs for effective development at the grassroots.

The Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Toye Arulogun, emphasised this during a live programme on AIT Ibadan, on Tuesday, saying that the establishment of LCDAs would enhance service delivery by the government to the people.

According to him, “The establishment of LCDAs will not only improve public service delivery management, it will indeed fast-track, expand and accelerate equitable and spatial development in the state.”

Arulogun further confirmed that the establishment of LCDAs was a response to the yearnings of the people of the state through their representatives in the House of Assembly.

In his words: “To ignore the voice of the people is to deny them of their desires. This government will not do that as it would be tantamount to being anti-people.”

The government spokesperson also affirmed that the creation of LCDAs in the state would give those who have been on the periphery the opportunity of being close to a development centre, thereby promoting a stronger sense of belonging.

He added that the existing staff members would be redistributed and redeployed since the new LCDAs will be carved out of the existing council areas.
