Lawyers urged to intensify public enlightenment on child rights act

As part of activities marking the World Children’s Day, students from select secondary schools in Taraba State have called on the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to intensify efforts in promoting the Child Rights Act across the country.

During a visit to the Jalingo branch of the NBA, a student of Anglican Comprehensive High School, Hephzibah Boshi, emphasized the vulnerability of children under the age of 18, urged legal practitioners to raise public awareness about their rights.

She also commended organizations like UNICEF for their relentless advocacy on child-related issues nationwide.

Responding to the students, Bar. Martin Milkman, the NBA chairman Jalingo branch reiterated that the Child Rights Act guarantees every child protection from abuse.

He also pointed out their right to care and support from parents and guardians, which he said is essential for nurturing responsible adults who will contribute meaningfully to society.

Milkman further encouraged the students to report any violation of their rights to trusted individuals or organizations, including the NBA and the media, for proper advocacy.

According to him, “Children, in particular, deserve additional protection, that is why we urge you to speak out when your rights are violated.” Milkman, the. NBA chairman encouraged.
