Lawyer denies appealing Bobrisky’s conviction

Human rights activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, refuted reports circulating that he had filed an appeal against the conviction of popular cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky.

Speaking with Punch on Monday, Adeyanju clarified that he is neither serving as Bobrisky’s attorney nor has he filed an appeal on his behalf, Punch reported.

Adeyanju stated, “I did not submit any appeal on behalf of Bobrisky. I am not representing Bobrisky in any legal matter.”

Last Friday, April 5, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) charged Bobrisky with six counts, including abuse of the naira and money laundering.

While the court dismissed the money laundering charges, Bobrisky pleaded guilty to four counts of naira abuse. Consequently, on Friday, April 12, he was sentenced to six months in prison for naira abuse without the option of a fine.

However, reports surfaced on Monday claiming that Bobrisky had appealed his sentencing and requested the appellate court to overturn the six-month imprisonment.
