Lawmaker donates education materials to 1,000 pupils in Apapa

Member, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mrs Mojisola Meranda, on Wednesday donated primary school learning materials to 1,000 pupils to aid and enhance standard education in her constituency.

Meranda, who represents Apapa Constituency 1, in the assembly, announced the donation during a constituency stakeholders’ meeting  in Apapa, Lagos State.

The meeting had as its theme as Environmental Challenges: Community Engagement to Facilitate Lasting Solution.”

She said the gesture was borne out of her belief that education is key to human development, adding that it was important to catch them young.

“If you educate children, you will have a better society.

“That is why I always put education as my top priority, supporting them at the primary school level by providing reading materials constantly to motivate the pupils and relieve their parents from responsibilities.

“I am donating 60 leaves exercise books, mathematical set and other writing materials to 120 pupils in each nursery and primary schools under Apapa constituency 1 to improve their learning and assist their parents.

“I am also donating text books and novels to all the nursery and primary schools in Apapa Constituency 1 such as Apapa Primary School, Ladi Lak, Nanti, Arakan among others,” Meranda said.

The Chairman of Apapa Local Government, Mr Owolabi Adele, who commended the lawmaker, said education was the best legacy to give a child.

“From my humble beginning, I am a product of public school; I have never in my life been privileged to attend a private school.

“So, if God can take me to this height, my prayer and my belief is that the same standard that is applicable to private schools will be extended to government schools.

“Presently, we are renovating schools in Apapa area,” Adele said.

While appreciating Meranda’s efforts, the council boss disclosed that the council would in a couple of weeks, inaugurate an E-library, which is still under construction.

Speaking on behalf of the schools, Mr Olusegun Adeyemi, a mathematics teacher in Ladi Lak, Nursery and Primary school, thanked Meranda for her generosity,

He said that such a gesture would go a long way to improve the standard of education in the area.
