The member representing Ibadan North-East/South-East Federal Constituency, Honourable Adedapo Lam-Adesina, has begun the distribution of fire extinguishing balls to markets in the constituency.

He said that the effort was to further protecting the life and property of his constituents by ensuring that the people have access to quick intervention in situations of fire outbreaks.

As he disclosed, the lawmaker said that as parts of his determination to curb the menace of fire outbreaks across the country, he presented a bill on the floor of the House on how to improve the operations of the fire service in the country.

Lam-Adesina, who began the official distribution of the fire extinguishing balls at the Araromi Spare Parts Market, on Saturday, said he embarked on the distribution of the self-activating fire-fighting devices because he was always saddened by news of fire outbreaks at markets, which often lead to loss of goods worth millions of naira.

At the event, which was witnessed by government functionaries, market and political leaders in the state, the lawmaker said he would not relent in delivering on his campaign promises.

The Director-General of the Fire Service in Oyo State, represented by a team led by Awoyinka Taiwo, commended Lam-Adesina for his effort on curbing the menace of fire outbreaks, cautioning the market leadership to ensure they use the balls according to instructions in case of fire outbreak.

He explained that the ball-shaped fire extinguishing devices, when thrown into a fire, would activate within three seconds and extinguish a fire and that when no one is present to throw them, they could self-activate.

In their remarks, the Special Adviser to the Oyo State governor on Budget and Planning, Dr. Isiaka Kolawole and former Commissioner for Health, Dr. Kola Balogun, lauded the lawmaker for the initiative.
