LAUTECH to construct hostels with TETfund’s N3bn grant ― Pro-Chancellor

Published by

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, Professor Ayodeji Omole has hinted that arrangements have been concluded to build hostels for the students of the institution with the assistance of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETfund).

He disclosed that the decision was aimed at changing the non-residential status of the university, with a view to addressing the accommodation problems faced by the students.

Omole, who made this known during the combined special convocation ceremonies of LAUTECH in Ogbomoso stated: “Although this institution is non-residential, we are now considering the provision of hostel facilities within the campus.”

“TETfund is presently assisting the university with N3 billion hostel project and it is ongoing,” he stated; adding that the development would go a long way to create more comfort for students and reduce their expenses in the payment of the exorbitant amount for accommodation in private hostels.

However, the Vice-Chancellor of LAUTECH, Professor M. O. Liasu lauded the intellectual performance of the university’s lecturers, which attracted research grants and awards from TETfund and foreign universities estmated at N533 million.

According to him, “LAUTECH has been able to secure 2019 TETfund Research and Development/Centre of Excellence Intervention fund worth N45 million. This intervention is to set up and run research and development offices.”

“Professor Salawudeen Taofeek Olalekan of the Department of Chemical Engineering and his research team won the 2020 TETfund National Research Fund grant worth N36.9 million.

“Similarly, Professor Justice. O. Emuoyibofarhe, who is the Dean of the Faculty of Computing and Informatics and Professor John. B. Oladosu of the Department of Computer Engineering won the inaugural Innovation for African Universities Programme (IAUP), 2021, which was awarded by the British Council. The value of the grant is £60,000, equivalent to N33.3 million,” Liasu remarked.

He further commended Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, who is the Visitor to the University for his commitment to the overall growth of LAUTECH.
