President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described the late former Anambra State Governor, Chief Chukwuememka Ezeife, as a true son of the soil who fought for the peace and unity of Nigeria.
The President who was represented at the funeral ceremony held at the late Ezeife’s Igboukwu county home, in Aguata local government area of the Anambra State, by the governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, said Ezeife died at the time Nigerians needed his development ideas the more.
The president praised the “towering influence of the former federal permanent secretary as well as his leadership credentials” in Nigeria’s political landscape.
“While praying for the repose of the soul of the dearly departed, the President encourages his loved ones to take solace in his indelible legacy.”
Ezeife was elected governor of Anambra on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), in Nigeria’s third republic, in 1992.
He served as governor until Sani Abacha, ex-military ruler, seized the reins of power at the centre and dissolved all civilian institutions in 1993.
Dignitaries present during the ceremony include; the state governor, Chukwuma Soludo, Senator Chris Ngige, Senator Victor Umwh, Senator Ben Ndi-Obi, Senator Uche Ekwuenife, and traditional rulers, among others.
