LASU sacks lecturer for abandoning duty post

THE Lagos State University, at the weekend, announced the dismissal of a lecturer, Dr Rufai, Odutayo, for allegedly abandoning his duty post.

A statement issued by the management said the decision was taken by the Governing Council after considering a report of a disciplinary committee set up to investigate the allegations.

The statement said: “The Lagos State University Governing Council at its expedient meeting held on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, considered the report of the Joint Council/Senate Disciplinary Committee on the allegation of abandonment of duty post and failure to serve the period of bond in the University levelled against Dr Odutayo.

“Council after extensive deliberation, approved the dismissal of Dr Raji Odutayo from the service of Lagos State University.”

Meanwhile, the management said it would no longer honour requests for “retroactive approval” of training or study leave for both its academic and non-academic staff, directing staff members who had embarked on such programmes to immediately obtain authorisation from the management through the Registrar’s office.

The statement said: “Some staff sought retroactive approval of the university for training/study leave. Such staff members embarked on full-time/part-time academic programmes without prior approval from the University;

“Retroactive approval for training/study leave would no longer be entertained from any member of staff (academic or non-academic).”
