LASU graduates 57 First Class as Osinbajo delivers convocation lecture

A total of 57 students of Lagos State University, LASU, Ojo, will be graduating with First Class honours and two of them; Rilwan Ola-Gbadamosi from the Faculty of Engineering and Nneka Enumah from the Faculty of Science scored the same Cumulative Gradient Points Average (CGPA) of 4.88 out of the obtainable 5.0 points to emerge overall best.

They will all be conferred with their academic titles alongside 14, 312 others comprising diploma, first and higher degree graduands at the institution’s forthcoming  23rd convocation ceremony. A total of 26 had first class last year with only one emerging as overall best.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Olanrewaju Fagbohun, made the disclosure on Thursday at a press conference held on the main campus in Ojo to kick-start a week-long ceremony which will also feature Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and former President of Ghana, Mr John Mahama, as the convocation lecturer and the chairman, respectively.

He said, while the convocation would take place between Wednesday, May 8 and Thursday, May 16, 2019, with many activities including coconut breaking festival, novelty football match and religion services, Osinbajo would speak on “Africa Centre of Excellence in Africa universities; A Veritable Catalyst for Nation Building and Development* on Thursday, May 16, with Ghana’s Mahama as the chair.

Breaking down the statistics of graduands, Fagbohun, a Professor of Law, said out of the total graduands, 10,252 of them would be honoured with first degrees in various disciplines while 4,063 and 54 would be conferred with higher degrees and diplomas in that order.

He said they had all been thoroughly baked as total graduates for global relevance.

On achievements recorded by the university in the last one year, Fagbohun identified full accreditation by the National Universities Commission(NUC), of all the 70 programmes being run by the university, sponsoring of both academic and non-academic members of staff for local and international training and conferences, foreign universities’ collaborations in students\lecturers exchange programmes, commencement of the open and distance learning system and students winning both  local, and international laurels,    steady academic session, among others.

He promised that the university would continue to pursue excellence in all its tripartite functions compromising teaching, research and community services.
