LASU expels 69 students for misconduct, cultism

Published by

THE Lagos State University (LASU) on Wednesday said it had expelled sixty-nine students who were engaged in various cases of examination fraud, cultism and other offences.

A statement issued by the management indicated the decision was made by the University Senate based on the recommendation of the Committee of Provost, Deans and Directors on Examination Misconduct.

“The University Senate on the recommendation of the Committee of Provost, Deans and Directors on Examination Misconduct at its 228th Statutory Meeting held on Thursday, June 2, 2016, considered and ratified the expulsion of 69 students and the suspension of 25 others for the 2015/16 academic session.”

The list of the affected students showed that 31 of them were expelled for using a “fake docket” on an examination day. Other offences were “impersonation”, “forgery”, “importation of pieces of paper relevant to the course into exam hall”, “fake receipts”  “fake identity cards,” “searching for answers using mobile devices”. Two of the students were said to be members of “Aiye Cult”, while one was a member of an unnamed cult.

Last month, the university suspended a total of 25 students who, according to an official statement, had failed to appear before a panel set up to investigate allegations of examination malpractice levelled against them during the 2015/16 academic session.
