A landlord’ s son has been arrested by the police at Sango Area Command for leading a gang of armed robbers to rob his father’s neighbours .
The suspect, Rasak Akinpelu, was arrested alongside two other members of his gang, Olubiyi and Shola Tiawo after a distress call by residents of Oluwaseun Street at the back of Sango Garage.
Two of the arrested suspects were jailbirds, who just returned to the community after serving jail terms for criminal offences .
It was gathered that the robbers had, a few days ago, invaded some streets which included: Yemitan, Oluwasun ,Famuyiwa and others .
Saturday Tribune gathered that the arrested suspects had ordered some female residents of some of the streets to remove their clothes but for the timely arrival of policemen which saved the situation .
A resident of Oluwaseun Street, simply identified as Easy ,while speaking with the Saturday Tribune said that he was injured by the armed robbers.
Easy said that apart from his apartment where three Sony mobile phones, one BlackBerry phone, one HP laptop and the sum of N125,000 were stolen, the robbers also burgled his co-tenant’s apartment, where an undisclosed huge amount of money was stolen.
Easy, while narrating his experience said: “It was late in the night, we were fast asleep ,when I heard attempts to forcefully break into our apartment.”
He also added that “before they could force the front door open, I made way to the back door and I jumped out through the fence and alerted some members of a nearby congregation “
A source at Sango Police Station,who pleaded for anonymity, while speaking with Saturday Tribune said “the community leaders made a distress call to the Area Commander and he quickly deployed some policemen.”
The police source added that, “eventually we were able to arrest one of them ,who was identified as a son to one of the community leaders and a landlord in the area .”
“He led us to where two other members of his gang, who took part in the operation were arrested and we have charged them to court on a three count charge of robbery, conspiracy and stealing.” The police source also added.
