Lagos Youth Commissioner delivers opening address at West Africa youth summit

The Lagos State Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlende, delivered the opening address at the West Africa Youth Summit on the 25th October, 2023 at the Lagos State University. He was received at the summit by the Convener, Amb. Emmanuel Agida

The summit, which took place at the Main Auditorium, Lagos State University brought together over 1,000 young people from across West Africa, was themed “Co-Creating Sustainability: Cross-Sector of Youth Participation in Driving Sustainable Development.” In his address, Honorable Mobolaji Ogunlende urged young people to embrace the opportunities available to them and to take charge of their own destiny.

In his address, Hon. Mobolaji Ogunlende emphasized that the young people are the Future of Africa. He further mentioned that “Young people have the power to shape the continent and to create a better future for themselves and for generations to come.” He also added that; How young people prepare themself for leadership will determine the outcome they’ll have.

He also highlighted the importance of leadership stating that the mindset is very critical when preparing for leadership roles. He also urged young people to take community contributions very serious as it is a start for the development and betterment of our state, Nation and region.

He added that “Preparation for leadership and contribution to the community to make the youth responsible, and Nigeria, a better place starts from home – from now.”

He further stated the importance of individual when it comes to leadership. He said “young people determine the choices they make towards leadership role.”

In his finals remark, he said “Africa is a continent of opportunity, and with hard work and dedication, we can achieve anything we set our intellect to.”

The West Africa Youth Summit is a one-day event organized by the West Africa Youth Fellowship in partnership with the Lagos State University. The summit featured speakers, workshops, and panel discussions on a variety of topics related to youth empowerment. The summit is designed to inspire and motivate young people to take an active role in shaping their future and the future of Africa.
