Lagos street party: LASG announces diversion of transport on VI

AHEAD of ‘Lagos Street Party’ holding between December 3rd and 4th, 2016, the state government on Monday announced diversion of traffics in some streets around Victoria Island where the world class event would be taking place.

Ag Commissioner for Transportation, Prince Lanre Elegushi, said this while addressing newsmen alongside his Information counterpart, Mr Steve Ayorinde and the Ag. Commissioner for Art and Culture, Hon Adebimpe Akinsola.

According to Elegushi, who disclosed that the event, as scheduled, will see the whole stretch of Ahamadu Bello Way, as well as street like Tiamiyu Savage, Akin Adesola and Bishop Oluwole condoned off, said motorists are to connect to Karimu Kotun and further to Oloosa Street with that journey terminating at the Oceanview end by Eko Hotels.

He said this is due to the fact that all traffic into the Victoria Island, venue of the event, would be condoned off at Bishop Oluwole with participants parking at the Eko Atlantic premises.

The commissioner, while speaking further, said motorists coming from Ligali Ayorinde and Ajose Adeogun would also terminate their journey at Eko Hotels.

“Even those from Civic Centre and Ozumba Mbadiwe will also terminate the journey at Eko Hotels. For those exiting Eko Hotels, they will travel through the Roundabout to connect Sanusi Fafunwa through Akin Adesola,” he said.

Elegushi added that, “Those returning to Ahmadu Bello will use Akin Adesola from where they can connect to Falomo.

“Those going to Falomo will use Akin Adesola to connect Falomo Bridge through Saka Tinubu through Karimu Kotun and Olosa Street.

“Since we are taking this route and restricting movement, we feel duty bound to provide information on alternative routes that people can take on the two days of the party.”

Elegushi said the state government had resolved to mount and deploy adequate traffic diversion signs and personnel to monitor and montage traffic for ease of movement of motorists, even as he said that the site of Eko Atlantic had been secured for parking by all participants who can bring their cars and park.

This was just as he assured of Lagosians of state government’s commitment to ensure that during the festival their plans and programmes would not be impaired in any way.

“However, it is pertinent for us to draw attention of all the residents of Victoria Island and all those visiting or transacting business in and around the venue to observe simple rules of engagement as enunciated by the traffic officer deployed. Obedience to traffic signs and rules and regulations are important if we are to do well in terms of traffic management.

“Once again, we like to appeal to all to please support us as we drive to have a very successful year ‘2016 Lagos Street Party,’” the commissioner said.
