A car wash attendant, 25-year-old Olaamide Quadri has been arrested by the Lagos Police Command for killing a pedestrian and injuring three others.
The arrested suspect had reportedly over the weekend just finished washing a customer’s vehicle and decided to drive it around when he crushed the pedestrians.
The image maker in charge of the state police command, Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the arrest of the suspect in a statement, signed by him on Monday.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Benjamin Hundeyin in a statement yesterday said after he finished washing the car he decided to test run it without the consent of the owner.
Hundeyin said, “On Sunday, June 2, at about 8:20 pm the Divisional Police Officer received a distress call about the fatal accident at Olosha, Agege motor road, Mushin.”
He added, “The DPO immediately went to the scene where a Toyota Camry car somersaulted several times and knocked down four pedestrians.”
” The victims were rushed to the hospital, where one of them identified as Tayo died while receiving treatment.”
According to the police image maker “During preliminary investigation, it was revealed that the suspect is a car washer and the car was taken to him to wash by the owner.”
“But the victim decided to drive the car for test running without the consent of the owner and eventually had accident with it.”
The accident car was recovered and moved to Alakara police station, while the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the mainland general hospital mortuary for autopsy, while efforts are ongoing to get across to the deceased’s family.
