The Lagos State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Tajudeen Agbede, has denied the alleged involvement of any of his aides in the killing of a guest at a wedding ceremony in Agege last Sunday.
The identity of the victim is yet to be established, according to the police.
A newspaper report had alleged the involvement of Agbede’s aide.
The NURTW boss, in a statement on Tuesday, denied the alleged involvement of anyone around him at the said event.
He said he was invited to the event like any other guest and he was there without any problem.
He expressed surprise that he was called the following day, about 20 hours after his presence at the event, by a reporter from a newspaper, seeking his reaction on the alleged killing.
“I am a man of peace; l don’t allow people around me to misbehave. I was at the party to honour a family friend who had a wedding ceremony for his child.
“I was there together with some traditional rulers and we left together, but I was surprised when a reporter called to make enquiries about the alleged murder of a guest at the wedding.
“I am of peace, I don’t carry weapons around and I don’t allow people around me to carry weapons. It is very unfortunate that some disgruntled elements are desperate to tarnish other people’s image,” Agbede said.
He, however, implored the police to get to the root of the matter by conducting a thorough investigation, adding; “I have already informed my lawyers to take legal action against any newspaper linking me or my union to the alleged murder.”
The Zone 2 Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Aderanti, had ordered an investigation into the incident.
