Lagos LG poll: I’ll not abandon you, chairmanship aspirant tells residents

A chairmanship aspirant in Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government in Lagos State, Mr Oloruntoba Oke, on Saturday promised to not abandon the people, if elected into office in the July 22 local government election.

Oke, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), told newsmen in Lagos that leaders, especially at the grassroots, must always be sensitive to the needs of the people, and strive to meet them.

According to him, the welfare of the people, provision of basic amenities and security remain the primary responsibility of any leader in government.

“People at the grassroots must be listened to because they determine of our political fate; we must be attentive to the yearnings and demands of the people.”

“What I am bringing to the table now is my experience. There are some things I did not have then which I have now. So I can do it in a better way,” he said.

Oke, a former Executive Chairman of the council, said that no government could perform 100 per cent, but he would, along with his team, achieve 70 to 80 percent.

The aspirant said his administration would make effort to boost the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in the area, promising to operate an open door policy to move the council forward.

He said that Ifako-Ijaiye Tuntun Community would be given special priority because of the need to address the challenges facing the area in terms of roads.

Oke called on the residents to be security conscious, reiterating that security remained everybody’s business.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has fixed July 22 for election into 20 Local Government and 37 Local Council Development Areas in the state.
