Lagos LG boss launches free cataract surgeries, medical screening for residents

The Executive Chairman of Itire-Ikate LCDA, Hon. (Dr) Ahmed Olanrewaju Apatira, on Thursday, commenced cataract surgeries and medical screening with free medications for residents in the district.

During the medical intervention tagged, “2-day mega medical mission’ residents were also screened and treated for conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, tuberculosis, free eyeglasses, dental care and tooth extraction.

According to the council chairman, over 1000 individuals are expected to benefit from the medical intervention.

Apatira who was represented by his Deputy, Hon. Yetunde Jimba, advised beneficiaries to prioritise their health by going for periodic medical check-ups.

Addressing beneficiaries at the event, he said, “This is another of our administration’s interventions to ensuring quality living for residents in the Itire-Ikate LCDA.

During this medical intervention, new cases of diabetes, hypertension and other health challenges were discovered and medications provided free of cost by our team of medical experts.

I commend the medical team and volunteers for their dedication to ensuring the program’s success. The medical mission provides a wide range of free healthcare services and caters to diverse health challenges of the residents.

Medications for various health conditions were made available to ensure immediate treatment for diagnosed ailments. This was done to remove all financial barriers and made essential medications accessible to all.

Also, individuals were also screened for cataracts and surgeries and extraction done accordingly. Other beneficiaries were given free eyeglasses to address vision challenges and improving the quality of life for many. This service was particularly beneficial to elderly residents with long-standing vision issues.

This life-changing intervention provided a solution to vision impairments that could have otherwise led to blindness. The program also focused on health education, empowering residents with knowledge about preventive care.”

He reiterated the council’s resolve to deliver impactful projects that improve the lives of residents.

Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the council leadership for the free medical intervention.
