Lagos launches new education TV programme for students

Published by

THE Lagos State government has launched a new educational television programme, ‘The Total Education Show’, for students in both public and private primary and secondary schools in the state, to be aired twice weekly on Television Continental and GOTv Channel 27.

Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo, disclosed in a statement by the head of the Public Affairs Department, Ministry of Education, Mr Kayode Abayomi.

She said the programme is an additional platform to the various ongoing radio, television and online classes open to students to strengthen their knowledge and skills even when they are still at home due to the general school closure owing to COVID -19 pandemic.

She noted that good education is not only about academic subjects but also include co-curricular activities that would make learning fun for students.

Aside from cognitive development, Mrs Adefisayo said quality education equally includes behavioural, entrepreneurial, analytical, experimental and sociocultural development.

“That is the only way to produce a total student in every child,” she added.

She said the new TV programme would focus on three major areas: Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STREAM) on the one hand; Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET); as well as Child Protection Advocacy against abuse.
