The Executive Chairman, Itire-Ikate LCDA, Hon. (Dr.) Ahmed Olanrewaju Apatira, in partnership with Simba Group, flagged off a 3-week training and empowerment programme on tricycle technology for women and youths in the district on Tuesday.
The programme tagged “Apatira Queens Ride Initiative,” which was held at the targeted Agricultural Training Centre, Odo-Olowu Street, Ijesha, Lagos, was designed to equip participants with comprehensive training on tricycle technology, at the end of which the three-wheeler will be given to them on a hired purchase arrangement.
In his keynote address, Managing Director of Simba Group’s Motorised Transport Division, Mr Mahendra Pratap, said the partnership was motivated by the determination of the council chairman to ensure that the youth, especially women, are gainfully employed.
Continuing, he said, “The focus of the partnership is to complement the efforts of the council chairman and indeed the state government to tackle the issue of unemployment and poverty among youths and women.
This is why Simba Group is providing comprehensive training on the use of the Deluxe Plus tricycle, a cutting-edge benchmark for three-wheeler technology.
At the end of the training programme, tricycles will be given to participants on a hired purchase term.”
Earlier, while speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Dr Apatira disclosed that the programme is one of his administration’s efforts to flatten the curve of poverty and unemployment.
He said, “Our objective is to reduce unemployment, poverty, and idleness among our youths and women. The primary goal is to foster self-reliance, alleviate economic pressures, and unlock the potential of participants, ultimately preparing them for future challenges.
Our administration remains committed to prioritising the socio-economic welfare of the council area. What more can I say than to continue to pledge to do more because that is why we are voted into power?”
