The Lagos State government on Tuesday reaffirmed its commitment to the provision of quality and quantitative education at all levels for the people of the state.
The state’s Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folashade Adefisayo, said this at the career fair organised by the Lagos State University(LASU), Ojo, on Tuesday, for all its students. The special adviser to the governor on education, Mr Wahab Tokunbo, represented by the permanent secretary of his office, Dr Samsudeen Allison, delivered the keynote address on a theme, “Employability enhancement for career advancement in a dynamic labour market,” at the event.
According to the commissioner, governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has pledged to take the education sector to an enviable height whereby educational institutions will be producing students and graduates that will compete favourably with their peers anywhere globally.

“It is only through sound education,” she explained, “that the right knowledge and skills for self-discovery and societal development can be attained in any country.”.
Speaking on the career fair, the maiden edition in the history of the university, the commissioners urged participants to see the knowledge and experience gained at the two-day event and coupled with the classroom experience irrespective of courses of study, to develop their potentials and become relevant now and in future
She said they (participants) were lucky to be exposed to various career opportunities that they could venture into right from when in school unlike their peers many years ago.
During our days, for example, she pointed out, all students wanted to become either doctor, or lawyers, or engineers and maybe accountants upon graduation. And nobody wanted to go into music or entertainment let alone sport or fashion industry.
” But all these are professions people are exploring today and contribute meaningfully to nation’s building, And that is why I want you to be focused and very committed to your studies and other lawful engagements that will help you achieving your good dreams for life, ” she admonished
In his own remarks, the vice-chancellor of LASU, Professor Olanrewajju Fagbohun, said the aim of organising the fair is to sharpen the skills of students for the workplace even when they are still in school.
He said the programme is organised by the career development centre of the university in conjunction with the alumni association and supported by many institutions such as the British Council and corporate bodies.
He said apart from the general knowledge participants would gain from experts in different fields, especially entrepreneurship, the final year students among them would also have the opportunities of securing three to six- month internship placement with the various partnering companies.
