The Lagos State government has announced the reintroduction of a 25% discount on public transport fares for passengers travelling during off-peak hours, offering relief to commuters between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM daily.
Additionally, the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line will increase its daily trips from 54 to 72 starting Monday, August 12, 2024, though the current Sunday schedule will remain unchanged.
Engr. Abimbola Akinajo, Managing Director of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), revealed that with the updated schedule, travel time between Marina and Mile 2 will be reduced to approximately 18 minutes from the previous 25 minutes.
This improvement means that trains will now run every 18 minutes in both directions, enabling commuters to plan their journeys more efficiently.
The new train schedule aims to reduce journey times, encourage more riders to use the train system during off-peak periods, and lower transport costs.
Updated timetables are available on the LAMATA website, at stations, and on social media.
Since commencing operations on September 4, 2023, the Blue Rail Line has transported nearly two million passengers.
